An innovative solution for recycling non-flammable fibres

An innovative solution for recycling non-flammable fibres V

Non-woven insulation made by combining recycled, non-flammable Kermel© fibres with Rockwool© mineral wool

IFTH, a structure of Carnot MICA, was called on by Kermel, a company specialising in non-flammable technical fibres for use in protective clothing (fire fighters, etc.), to develop a solution for recycling these fibres. Using the air-laying process (Formfiber’s SPIKE technology), IFTH experts created new non-woven materials incorporating different blends of Rockwool© mineral fibres and Kermel© fibres after first being deconstructed and unravelled.

The prototypes created take the form of non-woven insulating panels, giving Kermel© fibres a second lease of life.
