Anaerobic digestion pilot: a key tool to optimize the energy and agronomic valorization of biomass
The anaerobic digestion pilot developed by RITTMO Agroenvironnement, with the support of the Carnot MICA, is a unique research system designed to convert organic waste into renewable energy and valuable fertilizers.
This demonstrator clearly illustrates how the Carnot MICA supports industrial partners from project concept through to implementation.

An automated anaerobic digestion pilot for reliable and reproducible testing
Fully automated, the anaerobic digestion pilot developed by RITTMO makes it possible to simulate, at laboratory scale, biogas production processes from biomass.
The system includes numerous technical features: feed pumps to manage substrates, a biogas monitoring system to assess energy performance, and precise control of operating conditions.
These capabilities make the pilot a reliable testing tool, ideal for validating the technical and economic feasibility of processes before scaling up to industrial level.
From waste recovery to sustainable fertilizer production
The principle of anaerobic digestion is based on the breakdown of organic waste to produce biogas. This biogas can be used as an energy source, while the digestate, a by-product of the process, serves as a natural fertilizer rich in organic matter.
In the agricultural sector, this dual energy and agronomic valorization helps reduce costs, limit CO₂ emissions, and support the development of a circular economy.
