anaVOC, a joint laboratory dedicated to the real-time analysis of volatile organic compounds

A partnership between the CNRS – ICPEES and airmotec AG to improve air quality monitoring
Launched in June 2023 for a four-year term, the anaVOC joint laboratory (Development of Methods for Continuous and Real-Time Analysis of Volatile and Semi-Volatile Organic Compounds) brings together ICPEES (CNRS / University of Strasbourg) and airmotec AG, a member of the Chromatotec Group.
The objective: to develop new analytical methods capable of continuously and in real time quantifying volatile and semi-volatile organic compounds (VOCs and SVOCs) present in the air—and potentially in water.

Expertise in microfluidics and analytical instrumentation
The teams at the CAMATES laboratory within ICPEES, a member institution of Carnot MICA, contribute their recognized expertise in analytical chemistry, microfluidics, instrumentation, and air pollution.
In particular, they are working on the development of microfluidic devices and components for VOC analysis: sampling, separation, detection, and calibration of analytes. These innovations will ultimately enable more accurate, rapid, and reliable measurements, which are essential for environmental monitoring.
A scientific and industrial partnership dedicated to protecting the environment
On the industrial side, airmotec AG brings its expertise in the design of online analytical instruments for the characterization of gases and liquids. The company is already involved in several European projects, including PurPest, which aims to develop a portable chromatography system for monitoring volatile biogenic compounds.
By combining their expertise, the two partners aim to develop new analytical instruments—integrating sensors, microsystems, and data processing solutions—for more effective and sustainable environmental monitoring.
A contribution to environmental research led by a member of Carnot MICA
Through its involvement with ICPEES, Carnot MICA demonstrates the strength of its network in analytical sciences and environmental technologies. This collaborative project highlights the key role played by its member organizations in developing innovative solutions for the ecological transition.
